I Made This!
Some of you may not know, but before I went to college and got a degree in computer science and became a software engineer, I worked in construction for many years. I had graduated to the level of trim carpenter with a great amount of pride.
Anyways, over the last few weekends, I have been hard at work on a set of end tables, and I wanted to share them with you.
The body is made of poplar, while the top is made of 3/4 inch birch plywood. The top is dadoed into the body with a blocked-notch corner joint.
Overall, the design is Mission inspired, you might note from the slat bottom. I am not a huge fan of the full blown Mission style, so I tried to keep it light.
I wanted to go with a light stain, but my wife talked me into a dark stain. We went with a Jobobean and I think it went really well overall.

What did you use for a final finish over the stain? Also, how did you attach the top to the leg structure? Did you use buttons and grooves, or pocket holes?
I am FAR from being a trim carpenter, but I sure do love making sawdust, and have a small pile of 3/4 and 1/2 birch ply and some poplar to make roll-out drawers for our pantry. Figure I'll groove in the base of the drawer, dado the back piece and rabbit the front with poplar.

The final finish is just a satin polyurethane spray. For attaching the legs, my wife made it really easy when she told me that she liked the looks of plugs. I just grooved them and attached them with screws which I capped with flush plugs.
Tmm, two ways: I have given up sleep and have managed to master Hiro's (From NBC's show Heroes) ability to manipulate the space time continuum. Also, I have cloned myself 3 times. One was a republican so I had to do away with him...
